AGRICULTURAL USES OF ALKYL POLYGLUCOSIDE (APG)

Natural raw materials assist in finding green solutions to the existing chemistry Alkyl Poly Glucosides are made from natural raw materials like dextrose and fatty alcohol that are derived from renewable sources. Currently, agriculture industry demands products that are milder and less harmful to the environment. These products are cost effective when compared to alkoxylated emulsifiers being used presently in micro-emulsion formulas. They reduce costs through intelligent chemistry solutions by maximizing the efficacy of actives and enhancing environmental compatibility of the formulation.

WHY APG?

  • Good wetting properties - enhances the efficacy of actives by contributing its special wetting qualities. They also act as boosters for the purpose of wetting or dispersing, in the formulations
  • Low critical micelle concentrations
  • Low Interfacial tensions i.e. mineral oil / water interface
  • Excellent surface tension reduction properties • Superior solubility and hydrotrope properties in alkaline solutions (APG 0810) • Low CMC, excellent emulsification and increased foaming (APG 1214)
  • As non-ionic surfactants, most effective reduction in surface tension is derived even in extremely hard water. Good hard water film forming (APG 0810)
  • High adjuvancy with aqueous and oil based active ingredients
  • Improved tank mix compatibility/Tolerant of high electrolyte tank mix solutions
  • Enhanced systemic activity through non-phytotoxic translocation
  • Low eye and skin irritancy
  • Outstanding hydrotropic properties and excellent stability over a wide range of pH conditions Due to a unique one-step manufacturing process Butyl Glucoside is absent in our APG - which helps in formulating a odour-free end product without reduction in the active matter content and adversely affecting the foaming property in the formulation
  • Even during mineralization with Water and CO2, there is no formation of any environmentally harmful products
  • Being solvent free, they are stable over a longer period of time

By adopting green chemistries through the use of these eco-friendly products, formulators can meet strict safety standards and tolerances required by the ever demanding consumer. APG surfactants are very mild and bio-degradable and manufactured as per the below technology:

AGRICULTURAL USES OF ALKYL POLYGLUCOSIDE (APG)

FAVOURABLE ECO-TOXICOLOGICAL PROFILE

  • Very low human toxicity
  • Environmental advantage of being readily bio-degradable
  • Oral toxicity (Rat) levels > 5 g/kg.
  • Dermal Toxicity (Rabbit) levels > 2g/kg.
  • Low aquatic toxicity inspite of high interfacial activity

APPLICATIONS AND RESIDUE LEVELS

  • For pre and post harvest applications - can be used as inert pesticide ingredient
  • Systematic adjuvant and compatibility agent (APG 0810)
  • Excellent emulsifier and soil wetting agent (APG 1214)
  • Based on toxicity data – aggregate exposure to residues of APG is not harmful

GLYPHOSATE HERBICIDE SYNERGIES

Synergistic Action Mechanism on leaf surface was studied by evaluating the properties of APG and the following results were observed:

  • Glyphosate and APG have excellent synergies
  • Use of APG as tank mix adjuvant is due to excellent wetting properties
  • Epidermal wax layer of plant was dissolved, swelled or destroyed and hence Glyphosate herbicide easily penetrates and corneum solubility increases due to the presence of APG
  • APG induces stomatal absorbability of Glyphosate herbicide by plants
  • APG is a excellent built-in-additive for Glyphosate Salts
  • Enhances the efficacy of Glyphosate herbicide
  • Substantial reduction in eye irritation during spraying
  • Formulation can be classified in a lower hazard category
